A Harris County man is facing a felony charge after investigators determined he was living in Texas City instead of the southeast Houston address listed on his sex offender registration, authorities said.

Alonzo Longoria, 67, was arrested by Harris County Precinct 1 constables and Texas City police and charged with failure to register as a sex offender. The charge is a third-degree felony punishable by two to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

The investigation traces back to July, when Precinct 1 detectives served an Internet Crimes Against Children search warrant at a home in the 500 block of Gilpin Street. During the search, investigators found a tightly wound bundle of fireworks that initially appeared to be an explosive device. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad responded and safely secured the item.

Authorities said the home was also connected to the arrest of Justin Hogue, 36, who was charged with three counts of first-degree felony possession of child pornography. Investigators said more than 550 images and videos were found at the residence. Hogue’s case remains pending.

According to Constable Alan Rosen, Longoria owned the Gilpin Street home, where relatives lived, but detectives believe he maintained a bedroom there to make it appear he resided at the address. Investigators said Longoria was actually living at a home in Texas City.

Longoria is required to register as a sex offender for life after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a Houston woman in 2000. He was sentenced to eight years in prison.

His address has since been corrected in the Texas Sex Offender Registry, maintained by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
