The Brazos County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a woman who was found shot to death Wednesday night at a residence in northern Brazos County.

Just after 9 p.m., deputies were called to a home in the 6400 block of Trace Bend for a welfare concern. When deputies arrived, they found a woman who’d been shot to death.

The victim, 59-year-old Veronica Tussey-Taylor, was a Brazos County resident.

During the investigation, authorities determined Tussey-Taylor’s vehicle was missing from the home and they identified a suspect.

Investigators used automated license plate reader technology, including Flock cameras, to track her vehicle to the Houston area.

Brazos County investigators later received information that the vehicle may be at a property in northern Harris County.

A Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter located the vehicle on the property as Brazos County deputies responded to assist.

Brazos County deputies arrived in an unmarked vehicle to provide surveillance while Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the property.

Before deputies entered the property, investigators said the suspect took his own life using a firearm.

When deputies located him, he was confirmed dead.

The suspect was identified as 54-year-old John Goodwin, a College Station resident.

Authorities said Goodwin and Tussey-Taylor knew each other.
